How much does it cost to hire a skip?

That depends on a number of factors, such as the size you require, how long you need it for, and the location and position that the skip will be delivered to. Click here to speak to us and get an accurate price quote.

We will advise you on the cost to hire a skip, depending on where you require the skip delivery, what you plan to put in the skip, and how long you wish to have the skip for.

We will also confirm whether you will require a permit from your local council if you need to place your skip on the road. (We can arrange for this permit on your behalf).

Once you are happy with everything we will confirm your details and the delivery requirements, and organise your skip for you!

If you need to place your skip on a public highway (a road) you will require a skip permit from your local council. It is illegal to place a skip on a public highway without permission.

Different local councils charge different amounts but it generally costs between £30 and £50 for a permit to place a skip on a road.

This is of course entirely up to you, but the normal hire duration is between 1 and 14 days. If your skip is on the road you will need to check the length covered by your permit.

By law, skips must be loaded no higher than the sides of the skip. The use of boards to build the sides up is prohibited. Most importantly, the skip must be loaded securely and responsibly so that it is safe for road transport (See Highways Act 1980 – section 139 road traffic regulations act 1984).

If any items are considered to be overflowing or dangerous, our staff will remove them before the skip is taken away.

Bricks, hard core, rubble, soil (that isn’t contaminated), domestic waste such as packaging, furniture, furnishings, fixtures and non electrical fittings, wood, metal and plastic.

For legal reasons, there are materials that are prohibited from being disposed of in a skip. These include Electrical and Electronic Equipment (such as fridges, microwaves, hairdryers, radios TVs, computers, kettles and toasters), gas bottles and cylinders, chemicals and solvents, batteries, flourescent tubes, clinical waste (such as syringes, soiled dressings, medicine bottles) hazardous waste such as paint tins, oils, petrol, diesel, aerosols, mastic tubes, plasterboard, tyres, mattresses and asbestos.

Please check when booking your skip if you have any specific questions.

Skips sizes are approximate because the skip size (e.g. 2 yard) relates to it’s cubic volume. Different suppliers will use different measurements of length, height and width to calculate cubic volume.

When filling the skip you should ensure it is a level load – this means keeping the waste within the shape of the skip, and not using timber down the sides of the skip in order to include more waste as this will be unsafe and will make the skip overloaded (Skip lorry drivers have a duty of care to ensure they are carrying a safe and level load).

Your skip may include a mixture of waste in general waste skips, but please note if you intend to put rubble or earth for example in the skip, it will only be possible to hire a maximum of an 8-yard skip as otherwise it becomes too heavy for a skip lorry to lift.

Same day delivery can’t always be guaranteed, but we’ll do our best! Generally speaking the earlier in the day that you call us, the better the chances of a same day service.

Our prices are inclusive of delivery and collection of the skip and disposal of the waste. Also included will be any permit costs, and VAT

The waste is taken to a licensed disposal facility where it is sorted and processed to maximise recycling, and minimise the amount of waste that is sent to landfill.

You can pay by credit or debit card over the phone when ordering.

Due to the weight of the skips and the stabilising equipment of the lorry, damage is sometimes possible. However, our drivers are trained to minimise risk.

If you are concerned about the damage please contact us or mention at the time of booking.

Call us to let us know you have finished with the skip – a driver will then come to collect, usually within 48 hours. The skip is then taken to our waste transfer station where it will be processed for recycling.

If your payment is taken via a debit/credit card you will not need to be at the property – the driver will be fully trained and able to undertake delivery and collection.

Should you have any specific instructions regarding a delivery or collection, please advise us when you call.
